WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LOSERS?
FARMBOROUGH Memorial Darts League concluded with a happy presentation dance at the Memorial Hall, Farmborough, on Friday.
The winners and friends were there to receive about 14 handsome trophies and other awards, but there was a noticeable absence of many of the less fortunate teams in the league.
League secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. R. Leakey, admitted that he would have liked to have seen many more people supporting that happy event.
In all, 15 teams competed and in addition to the major trophies, prizes amounted to over £150.
Mr. Leakey expressed thanks to all who supported the league and said, "We have had a very succesful season and everything has gone through very smoothly." He introduced vice-president Mrs. Molly Calvert, of Bath, who presented the awards and congratulated the recipients.
There was a special presentation of a barometer to Mr. Jimmy Workman, who was licensee of the former Rose and Crown Inn at Withy Mills, in appreciation of his long association and support of the league.
The Winterfield Inn, Paulton, won the league championship and provided the winners in the Foursomes competition. The KO Cup went to the Railway Hotel, Clutton.
The Masqueradors Band, provided the music for dancing and there was an ample supply of refreshments prepared by a small ladies committee.
