FORMER HAULIER AND LICENSEE Funeral of Mr. Thomas Hall
A link with old business associations in Paulton has been severed by the death of Mr. Thomas Hall, who passed away at his home at Farrington Road, Paulton, where he had been attended for a number of years with loving care and solicitude by his daughter, Miss Annie Hall.
Mr. Hall whose wife predeceased him some 16 years ago, had reached the ripe age of 92 years, and was reputed to be the eldest male inhabitant in the parish of Paulton. He was a much respected and widely known personality, and was, for a good part of his life, interested in and a great lover of horses.
For many years he was the official haulier for the Clutton Rural District Council, and for a long period was a familiar figure on the roads of this district carrying out his duties for the Clutton Council, which duties have since been carried on by his son, Mr. T. Hall.
Mr. Hall senior was also formerly well-known in the licensing business, and for upwards of 60 years held the license of the "Live and Let Live" Inn, at Farrington Road, Paulton. Some years ago the premises, as a licensed house, were closed, but he continued to live on the premises up to the time of his death.
The funeral took place on Friday when the interment in Paulton Cemetery was preceded by a short service in the parish church of Holy Trinity, Paulton. The Rev. K. M. Jack (vicar) officiated, and the hymns were "Peace, perfect peace," and "Now the labourer's task is o'er." Mr. Ron Kingman, F.R.C.O., of Paulton, presided at the organ.

Hall (daughter-in-law); Miss Nellie Hall and Mr. William Hall (grandchildren); Mr. W. Lovell (nephew); and other old friends and neighbours including Mr. T. Hares, and son, of Glastonbury, and Mr. G. T. Carter, of the Victoria Inn, Paulton.
Among those present at the church were: Mrs. Greening (niece) and Mrs. Filer. Miss Annie Hall (daughter) was unable to attend through indisposition.
The floral tributes sent included from Annie and Tom; Mr. and Mrs. E. Holvey, Tunley; Mrs. C. Hall, Farleigh; Nellie and Billy; his loving grandchildren Emmie, Winnie, Bill, Maud and Dorothy; Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Carter, Victoria Inn, Paulton; Mr. and Mrs. Hares and family, Glastonbury; Mr. and Mrs. H. Clements. Paulton, and others.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. F. Hookings of Peasedown.
The family of the late Mr. Thomas Hall desired to express their sincere thanks for the kind messages of sympathy and floral tributes sent in their sad bereavement, especially to Dr. C. L'oste and Dr. A. J. B. Miall, of Paulton, for their devoted attention and kindness during the deceased long illness.—Paulton, Nov. 23rd, 1943.
