PAULTON
MANY PAY FINAL TRIBUTE TO WELL-KNOWN LICENSEE
Friends from a wide area attended the funeral of Mr. Sidney Morley Raikes (53), at Paulton on Thursday last week.
The first portion of the service was in the Baptist Church and the hymns were "The Lord's my Shepherd" and "In heavenly love ahiding." The Rev. M. W. Whiteley (Pastor) officiated at the church and at the graveside at Paulton Cemetery.
Mr. Raikes' death in Paulton Memorial Hospital, following a short illness, came as a great shock to his many friends. He was licensee of the New Inn, Paulton, for about 11 years, and was widely known and respected.
A native of Paulton, he devoted the greater part of his working life to the coal mining industry at Old Mills and Norton Hill, where he was working until a few weeks before his death.
He was a great sportsman and took an interest in numerous village activities. Many organisations benefited by his generosity.
He leaves a widow and married son to whom the deepest sympathy has been extended.
