WRITHLINGTON

'WELL-KNOWN IN WRITHLINGTON

GOLDEN WEDDING OF MR. AND MRS. A. T. COOMBS

Married at the Kilmersdon parish church, by the Rev. F. B. Marsland (curate of Babington), on July 30th, 1889, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Tom Coombs, of Writhlington, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Sunday at the residence of their youngest daughter. Mrs. M. Harrington, at the Somerset Inn, Paulton.

The family are widely known and respected in the Writhlington district. Mrs. Louisa Coombs (nee Parfitt), was a native of Stoke St. Michael, and Mr. Albert Tom Coombs, was a native of Kilmersdon.

All his working life Mr. Coombs had been employed in the coal mining industry. He was for many years employed at the Huish colliery up to the time of the pit closing down, and then went on to Writhlington colliery where for years he was an examiner up to the time of his retirement about four years ago.

Of the family of nine of the marriage there are seven surviving, three sons and four daughters, one of the sons, Mr. Ernest Coombs, formerly a well-known Bath City player, is now a member of the Somerset Police constabulary, stationed at Keynsham. As a matter of fact the three sons were formerly all prominently associated with the soccer code, and played for the Coleford Athletic A.F.C.

Family Re-union.

Both Mr. Coombs, who is 72 and Mrs. Coombs, who is 71 years of age, are in comparatively good health. They have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and the whole family were present to take part in the celebrations on Sunday.

The golden wedding cake was made and presented by their eldest daughter, Mrs. Cottle. of Wells.

They both received many messages of congratulation, and not a few presents from members of the family circle and friends, with hopes expressed that they might be spared to enjoy many more years of good health and happiness together.
