WELL-KNOWN RESIDENTS
Death of Mr. James Brook.
During the past week death has removed two aged and very respected inhabitants from Paulton. On Tuesday morning there passed away at his home at Windsor Terrace, Paulton, Mr. James Brook, who had reached the ripe age of nearly 84 years. He leaves a widow and three daughters and one son. A native of Bridestowe, Devon, the deceased was formerly in the employ of the Somerset and Dorset Railway, and for some years held the position of stationmaster at West Pennard, Glastonbury, and other places on the Company's line, and later went into business as a coal merchant at Gillingham, Dorset. From here he came on to Paulton some 38 years ago and for a number of years was licensee of the Winterfield Inn, Paulton, and he also was in the employ during a period, of the Old Mills Collieries Company, as a Veerer. The deceased retired from work some 12 years ago. He had been in failing health for some time past and his end came not unexpectedly and quite peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning.
